Description
"One of Bordeaux's five blending components, this grape has come into its own in Argentina, where it produces gutsy reds. Bellevue's Malbec is one of a kind, bold and enchanting, our Wild Child, rapidly acquiring a cult following."
Tasting Note
Tantalisingly wild on the nose, with scents of rosemary, fynbos and buchu, but soft on the palate with an abundance of plums and red cherries, underscored by hints of watercress and herbs. Delicious with roast leg of Karoo lamb with rosemary and mint, or an African-inspired guineafowl 'coq au vin'.
In the Vineyard
From vineyard blocks dating back to 1990, now trellised and partly irrigated. Most of Bellevue's Malbec vineyards lie on flat terrain alongside the Bottelary River, with one exception on a southern-facing hillside.
In the Cellar
Handpicked and cold-soaked before inoculation. Fermented for about five days, with pump-overs three times daily. Matured in French oak (20% new) for 12 months after malolactic fermentation.
